FDA Ban on Certain Flavored Tobacco Products
The FDA Center for Tobacco Products has developed a webpage to address the ban, under the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act, on cigarettes containing certain characterizing flavors.  The website includes links to all published guidance, to general questions and answers, and to a form for use in reporting to FDA information about cigarettes with characterizing flavors.  Those with questions should contact the FDA Center for Tobacco Products, using the contact information provided on its webpage. North Carolina Man Sent to Prison and Barred from the Tobacco Industry
The Department of Justice reported that a business owner was sentenced and barred from any involvement in the tobacco industry for making false statements on federal tax returns, underreporting the number of tax stamps affixed to cigarettes, and creating false billing and shipping documents.  This investigation was conducted by the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; and the Office of the Attorney General for the Commonwealth of Virginia. Extension of Package Use-Up Rule for Roll-Your-Own Tobacco and Pipe Tobacco
 In T.D. TTB-81, TTB has extended the use-up period for non-compliant roll-your-own and pipe tobacco packaging, and delayed the new classification rule for roll-your-own and pipe tobacco, until March 23, 2010.  Interested persons may submit comments on this extension via Notice No. 99.  The use-up period previously ended on August 1, 2009 (see T.D. TTB-78).  (09/24/09)

New Requirements Regarding Processed Tobacco and Roll-Your-Own Tobacco
TTB recently published temporary regulations implementing certain provisions of CHIPRA in T.D. TTB-78 (corrected in T.D. TTB-80).  Comments on these regulations may be submitted via Notice No. 95 by October 20, 2009 (comment period reopened by Notice No. 98).  (08/25/09)
