Redesigned Chemist Certification Procedure- NEW DEADLINES AND FORMAT
TTB has recently redesigned the chemist certification procedure. The new procedure changes three aspects of the certification program to 1) expand who may apply for certification, 2) revise the list of analyses for certification based on the current requirements of various importing countries, and 3) establish a proficiency testing program for certification by which TTB issues the test samples to the applicants. Applicants will perform analyses on samples provided by TTB. The results will be forwarded to TTB and assessed to determine certification suitability. Please do not submit samples to the laboratory. TTB will issue test samples to the applicants. A Request for Participation is due to TTB by April 1, 2010.

New Guidelines Posted in Drawback Tutorial
New guidelines for anise oil, fennel oil, triacetin, washed extracts of essential oils, and 2 percent by weight total flavor chemicals are now included in the “What Makes a Product Unfit?” section of the Drawback Tutorial. The calculations worksheets based on the guidelines have also been updated. (10/30/09)
