TTB ETHANOL WASTE RECYCLING PROGRAM DELIVERS FIRST BATCH OF ALCOHOL FUELTTB's National Laboratory Center delivered its first batch of alcohol fuel generated through its Ethanol Waste Recycling Program to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), who is responsible for the building's power. This program involves recycling the pure ethanol from alcohol samples submitted to TTB using a 25-gallon copper still and using the recycled denatured alcohol to create a fuel mix. Upon completion of a distillation, the pot residue (a water/alcohol mix with less than 24 percent alcohol by volume) is disposed of via the building's sewer system in accordance with EPA regulations. As of August 20, 2007, the TTB Laboratory has distilled approximately 360 gallons of accumulated distilled spirits samples, which yielded approximately 100 gallons of alcohol fuel. ATF will use the fuel to generate building power. This has resulted in approximately $1,600 in savings to TTB in waste removal costs. "WE DON'T SERVE TEENS WEEK" STARTS SEPTEMBER 10
